Myalgic encephalomyelitis, also referred to as chronic fatigue syndrome, is a complicated illness that often has no apparent cause, making it difficult to diagnose and treat.
The recent study by Elsevier Inc. demonstrated how elevated levels of fructose could damage your brain genes. This study illustrates how food can affect how our bodies operate and provides a better understanding of our relationship with food.
When we consume a sugar-laden diet, it can result in some health consequences.
Through the study conducted, the researchers saw how added sugars affect the human brain in a negative way. The researchers discovered that 734 hypothalamic genes were affected, along with 206 hippocampal genes. These genes have different functions but govern different critical parts of the brain. They aid in cell metabolism, cell communication, inflammation, and overall brain function. These genes do not change in any manner.
On a positive light, the study has also shown that Omega-3 oil DHA “has the potential to normalise the genomic impact of fructose.” This means that including an ample amount of Omega-3 oil DHA into your diet can aid in combatting the gene alterations caused by high doses of fructose. You can find Omega-3 oil DHA in various foods such as fish, fish oil, and in particular types of egg and dairy products.
However, most doctors recommend you avoid added sugar as much as you can. Try your best always to find low-sugar substitutes and familiarise yourself with the nutritional facts of the products you have in your cupboards.
On a side note, fruits are not counted as added sugars, and they contain a lot of fibre which aid in sugar absorption. So, the next time you crave something sugary, reach for the apple and give up that unhealthy and sugar-laden snack.
